FORESIGHT IN AFRICA

AFA continues the collaborative tradition with FARA’s major industry partners who recognise the critical role foresight plays in Agricultural systems, and beyond including but not limited to: Foresight4Food, Africa Forum for Agricultural Advisory (AFAAS), Global Forum on Agricultural Research (GFAR), ASARECA, CCARDESA, and CORAF. The key main drivers will be FARA, SRO’s, AFAAS, AUDA, AUC, and NARIS. Through collaboration with our partners, AFA contributes to strengthening of foresight among professionals in Africa.

The Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA) and the CAADP ex- Pillar IV institutions-CAADP XP4 (i.e. AFAAS, ASARECA, CCARDESA and CORAF) facilitate the strengthening of capacity for foresight among professionals and communities of practice in African institutions. The focus of foresight activity within the CAADP XP4 partnership has been to foster forward-thinking capacity on how innovation and knowledge can best help surmount the diverse challenges facing agriculture in Africa, to ensure that agricultural research and innovation are more responsive to future agri-food systems and related development needs.

This is achieved through sensitizing stakeholders about the relevance of foresight; facilitating the development of competencies in conducting foresight and interpretation of foresight results; offering technical assistance to enable regional and national organizations to participate in foresight initiatives and apply results from past /ongoing foresight and documenting and share experiences on foresight. The operational system for implementing these activities is underpinned by the development of the Africa Foresight Academy (AFA)
